Research

My laboratory studies the molecular pathogenetic features of bacteria causing chronic diarrhea in the developing world. This work entails the application of sophisticated molecular genetic techniques to characterize bacterial virulence factors and mechanisms. The ultimate aim of this research is to develop efficient and cost effective interventions against diarrheal diseases, including vaccines. My laboratory works closely with epidemiologic, clinical and volunteer studies so that laboratory developments can be rapidly implemented in relevant situations.
