How to Apply

We are no longer accepting application for 2019-2020 cohort. We will start accepting applications for the next cohort in November 2019.

Applications will be reviewed once all supporting documentation is received. ‌‌

Step 1

The STAR-PREP application will be available once the application cycle opens in November 2019.  In the application, you will need to select three research areas of interest. You can also add a mentor in each area.  Mentors can be picked from using the link in the application or by visiting the current mentors page on the STAR-PREP webpage and reviewing all possible mentors in the GPILS faculty list. You can also search for faculty by research interests. E-mail the application to The application can also be mailed or faxed.

Arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation emailed directly to starprep@som.umaryland.eduIf emailed, the letters of recommendation should be sent from a university/school email address and not from personal email. Recommendations can also be mailed or faxed.

Step 4

Send transcripts from all colleges/universities that you have attended-if the date of your graduation is not stated in your transcript, please submit proof/verification (i.e. from your college registrar's office) that you completed your degree or that you'll complete your degree before the start of PREP. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted for the application review process.  However,  if accepted into the program, you will be asked to provide official transcripts before entry.

Step 5
