UMB Food Access Initiatives and Resources

UMB Food Pantry Request Form -  Each month, the Pantry distributes 1,000+ pounds of shelf-stable food and hygiene items. Students can place pantry orders via an online form and pick up their order from lockers located on the first floor of the SMC Campus Center.

UMB FREE - Students can help minimize food waste and receive free food by signing up for alerts about food available at events around campus. 

URecFit and Wellness Membership Information - Currently enrolled UMB students and UMB Shady Grove students in good standing have access to URecFit and Wellness. A current UMB One Card must be presented in order to enter.

Holistic Wellness Programs - Holistic Wellness is a multi-faceted approach to life that considers the whole person and the connection of body, mind, and spirit.

Student Counseling Center - The Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling, medication, and workshops.

UMB Scholars for Recovery - Scholars for Recovery is a student organization committed to promoting activities and providing resources that promote the health and wellness of students, especially students who are recovering from substance use disorders. This group is open to UMB students who are sober curious, in recovery, or advocating for peers and classmates in recovery.

Better Together Social Wellness Programs - Better Together is an initiative created to encourage students to strengthen their social and emotional well-being.

Psychiatric ER - University of Maryland Medical Center's 24/7 Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) program is for people over age 18 who urgently need a psychiatric assessment, evaluation and referral. Services, provided on a walk-in basis, help people to access to mental health and addiction recovery resources.

Maryland Health Coverage Assistance Team - The HCAT can answer your health insurance questions, address problems or concerns you may have with your health insurance and connect you to health assistance resources.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore envisions a world where all people affected by mental illness lead healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares. To support that mission, they provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness around mental health issues.

HeyPeers Virtual Support Groups - Their mission is to help more people improve their lives by leveraging innovative technology and evidence-based peer support programs.

Academic Resources

Academic and Professional Development Coaching - Together with a trained coach, students examine their learning styles, working habits, career and leadership aspirations, professional goals, and current difficulties or barriers to success. Then this team—coach  (coach and student—works to create and put in place more effective strategies. The aim is to heighten awareness of what it takes to achieve academic and professional success and anchor this with new strategies, a supportive relationship, and personal accountability.

Educational Support and Disability Services - The Office of Educational Support and Disability Services (ESDS) coordinates services to assist students with disabilities in obtaining reasonable accommodations through an interactive process involving the student and the school.

The Learning Institute - Each micro-course within The Learning Institute was designed to showcase unique professional achievements, soft-skills development, extra-curricular course completion, and non-academic certifications.

AI at UMB - The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is dedicated to fostering an environment where innovative and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies create new opportunities in research and education.

Be There Certificate - The Be There Certificate is a free, digital, self-paced learning experience designed to increase mental health literacy and provide youth with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to safely support anyone who may be struggling with their mental health.

Mental Health First Aid - Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training course that teaches participants how to safely and responsibly identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness, substance use disorders and someone experiencing a crisis.
