Overview

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are now open!

If you have any questions about applying, please fill out the Request More Information Form and you will receive an email from the appropriate program staff member.

We highly recommend early and direct communication with Program Staff to ensure a smooth application process. They are always eager to hear from prospective students to discuss our programs and all of the things that the Graduate Program in Life Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore has to offer!

Once you are ready to officially apply, you can do so online through the Graduate School website.

Each of our graduate programs has its own specialized criteria and individual due dates that can be found on each program's "How to Apply" page.

Our most competitive applicants have earned a GPA of 3.0 or better in their previous studies, have extensive research experience, and provide excellent recommendation letters. Each program has its own admissions committee where the members review each application with a holistic approach.

Did you know that only 3 of our programs require the GRE for admission?

International Students

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test is required to be considered for admission.

Transcripts and Mark Sheets

International applicants must provide one official transcript in English and one official native language transcript or mark sheet from each college or university attended. Each set of documents must list subjects studied, grades or marks received, and rank in class or division.

The Graduate Programs in Life Sciences (GPILS) requires international applicants to provide a transcript evaluation from a NACES member evaluation agency in addition to the official, translated transcripts or mark sheets. We recommend using one of the following companies:

International Student Experience

The daily experiences of our academic community are enriched by the diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and origins of our faculty, students, staff, and postdocs.

Our school and the greater Baltimore area are fortunate to be comprised of people of all nationalities. Our diversity continues to be a strength and a point of pride on our campus.

The Office of International Services on the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus functions as the primary source for information serving the international student and scholar population, providing advice and support on matters of an academic, personal, and cultural nature.
